Taking some artistic license,
Seerey-Lester has produced this
intriguing painting depicting one
of the many archeological digs on
the Island. Here you can see a
cluster of vertical lightning whelks,
surrounded by partial columella;
a couple of biface (spear heads)
as well as adze (axe heads). It is
believed the vertical whelks were
used as anvils for the pounding of
shellfish and vegetables.
